Happy Birthday Kim Taeyeon

you are always my going to be my hero. Your talent has been an inspiration for me to work hard, to fight through all the hard times (as meaningless as they were), and to always see the brighter side, in the hopes that someday I might be half as good as you are. You are my dream come true, and I will always be glad that you were alive, and that you were born. Thank You

Anonymous asked: thoughts on the major role plastic surgery plays in the kpop industry?

This is actually a very complex question, in my opinion, as it encompasses many aspects of why people get plastic surgery in general. In the kpop industry, there is much speculation that labels force their idols to get plastic surgery under contract in order to make them more presentable to the public. Furthermore, South Korea is currently the world leader in plastic surgery, so it isn’t hard to imagine why these rumors might have some validity. Also, a lot of anti-fans tend to resort to calling out members of groups as fake and plastic for the sake of slander and defamation.

The way that I am going to take this question is that I will assume you’re asking about plastic surgery as a practice that is popular within the industry, and not about rumors spread by those who don’t have the idol’s best interest in mind.

In my opinion, the amount of plastic surgery done on stars in the Korean entertainment industry is no greater than that done on stars in the American entertainment industry. Furthermore, I don’t really care whether people get plastic surgery or not, as it is my personal belief that if you are so insecure about your looks that you see going under the knife as your only option left to gain that confidence you need to live your life, then that is your business and your business alone.

As for the speculation of whether labels make stars get surgery under contract, I’m not going to deny that even I have suspected that there is a lot of cosmetic work being done to some idols under the radar. Case in point would be Park Bom. really, anyone can look at her and tell that she has definitely gotten a lot of work done since she debuted. I’m not trying to say that she’s a terrible person for it, and I’m not hating on her in any way. I love 2ne1, and I love her as a vocalist, however there is no denying that she has definitely gotten a lot of work done, despite there being no official statements released by YG Entertainment. Now as for whether or not this is a bad or good thing, I say, why does it matter? She’s a fantastic power vocalist and an essential member of 2ne1, how should it matter what has been done to her face? Aren’t they idols, and should therefore have more emphasis be placed on their music?

As an extension of the whole contract-forced surgery talk, one must remember, they are under contract. This means that they read over the terms and conditions of it, they weighed their pros and cons, and decided that their dreams of being famous singers and actors was more important than their looks. Who are we to judge them for wanting to follow their dreams? And worse comes to worse, at the end of that contract, they could always leave the company and come clean about any work they have had done, or even sue the company in order to create noise and publicity about anything they find wrong with their contracts, much like what JYJ had done to SM Entertainment, and what Block B is currently doing to Stardom Entertainment.

All in all, I think that this whole stress on whether or not idols have had plastic surgery or not is stupid and completely ignores the reason why they are idols in the first place. Instead of judging them for how they look, how about appreciating them for who they are, their personalities, their actions, and their talents?

Thanks for asking!! ^_^
